With 23 years of as a graphic designer I knew it was time to offer my experience to the local business communitiy. I was formally educated in Cincinnati, Ohio at Central Academy of Commercial Art, classically trained in layout & design, logo design and technical illustration with gouache.
I landed my first position with Magnagraphics, Inc. in downtown Cincinnati. I learned the ropes as a key-line artist while assisting with stat camera operation. Then I moved up to the design team. Many hours were spent creating marker illustrations.
It’s amazing to look back and see how far our industry has come. Let’s see...now we can create 10 times the volume of work on demand...all at a frenzied pace. I thrive on the crazy deadlines...love every minute of it...only now I require longer vacations!
After moving around and working for small studios in Ohio, I headed to the frozen tundra, Milwaukee, WI. I was priveledged to work with Roy Reiman of Reiman Publications for 10 years. As Art Director of Taste of Home magazine, my education continued. Along with producing this magazine and other books and calendars, I also designed and art directed 51 Taste of Home covers. I spent my last 2 years in the photo studio as a food photography artist.
Seven years ago I decided to warm things up and move to Greenville, SC to be near my family. I started my southern career with Roylco, Inc. in Anderson as a designer of educational art materials, also illustrating, writing and editing...more education for me. My final stop was with The Palladian Group in Spartanburg. As Sr. Art Director, my responsibilities grew. With print buying and price negotiating—as well as designing—I found myself completely confident in each arena.
I have enjoyed such great work experiences with so many talented people, giving me a never ending education that I realized it was time to put my heart and soul into my own business and start FatCatz Creative.
